[/i]" Velvet spoke softly, but steadily, and her words were precise and clear as though she had been thinking them through a long time. That was how she always spoke. She always spoke slowly, choosing her words carefully. It was just her way of talking, but some students picked this out as a thing they could mock. The Gryffindor laughed so hard that a tear ran down his face. "What a dolt! She thinks this is a game?" The Slytherin joined the laughter and then pulled out his wand, a black wand that was etched with silver, and pointed it at her. "Let's see if we can force some tears out of her!"
Velvet stared at her book intensely; not reading it; just enjoying it. She stared at the words, tracing a few of the letters, and smiling to herself. She wasn't wearing her uniform, since she didn't really feel in the mood to wear one. Her eyes shifted upward as a class got out and students began to crowd into the Quad. Velvet frowned a little, wishing that she could go to her room, but her room mate had kicked her out for putting a spell on their beds, causing them to become animated. Until the beds stopped stomping around, Velvet had been told not to come back. Velvet shrugged to herself, thinking of the punishment; which wasn't too bad. She was sure that the spell had to wear off eventually...if spells wore off at all. Velvet thought about that for a moment before someone stopped to stare at her.
"Simple-minded Snowy. What are you doing?" Velvet didn't so much as blink at the nickname. She just continued to stare at the book as though nothing was happening. After a moment of silence, though, she responded "Just staring" without looking up at the person. The boy laughed a bit and then called to one of his friends to point out the girl's oddities. The two laughed, but Velvet had a remarkable talent for ignoring people; so that's what she did. One of the boys, a Gryffindor, started to get angry. "She's not doing anything" he grumbled, as though he had expected something to happen, like when you poke at a tiger. The other boy, a Slytherin, crossed his arms across his chest. "Simple Snowy, she's too dumb to even know what we're saying. That's why she's a Hufflepuff!"
Velvet looked up at them at this comment. She smiled a little smile, which was more than she usually did anyways. "If you want a reaction out of someone I would suggest going somewhere else with your game. It doesn't effect me much at all.
Velvet looked back at the book, not much threatened by the two boys and their sudden eagerness to pull out a wand on her. Sure, it was against the rules, but she still didn't think either one of them was bright enough to remember a spell that could harm someone. She turned a page in her book and then pulled her own wand out of her backpack, just in case. "I also keep my want on me at all times; just in case something of this situation would arise.[/i]" The two boys laughed again. "No wonder she's in Hufflepuff! What a dope!" "I believe I was placed in Hufflepuff house because of my fierce loyalty and my work ethic, but you may choose your own theory if you wish."
The calmness in Velvet's voice didn't make them any less angry. Instead the Gryffindor whispered something into the Slytherin's ear. The Slytherin boy laughed and looked at Velvet with disdain. "You're an orphan? No wonder you're such a loner! What happened? You're parents thought you were so weird they hung themselves?" Velvet said nothing in response to that, but kept her wand tight in her grip. [/blockquote][/blockquote][/justify]
